In my current mod, Phantasy 2018, ranged units are very powerful, as they include mages, and companions are numerous enough that I need no additional cavalry. If possible, I do not field anyone without a horse - you can dismount knights to get heavy infantry, and horse archers to get archers, and the barrier of stationary horses is icing on the cake.
